Pakalapati Naga Vamsi

Pakalapati Naga Vamsi and Shivani are children of Rambabu. They hail fromBalusupadu Village, Jaggaiahpeta Mandal, Krishna Dist. Pakalapati Rambabu is an Agricultural Labourer in his village. After two years of his marriage, he noticed a loss of sensation of his both hand and feet. By his family members’ advice, he consulted a private Hospital in Khammam Dist., The Medical Officer examined him and detected as a Leprosy Multi Bacillary (MB) Case and referred him to Government Hospital for treatment. By that time, Rambabu was suffering from an ulcer in his right foot. He was admitted to a private hospital for ulcer healing. He spent nearly INR 20,000 for treatment. The National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) staff, during their visits, registered as MB case and put under Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT). He completed 12 months of MB treatment and declared as Released from Treatment (RFT).

In 2016 LEPRA Society, in the SANKALP project, registered as grade II disability case and motivated him to attend the IPOD camps. Ulcer management was done in the camps. In 2018, he suffered from an ulcer in his right feet and referred to LEPRA Referral Centre in Vijayawada. He also has ulnar claw in both hands. Physio care was done and referred to Reconstructive Surgery to Referral Centre in Morampudi.

He lost his daily wages in these challenging conditions. The whole family depends on his daily wages only, and they are facing financial issues. He was much worried about leading the family and expenses for children education. In 2019, during the team visits, it was found that Shivani had a patch on her face and diagnosed as a new Leprosy PB case and initiated treatment. She completed her six months of treatment. Both the children were supported for their education under CHAHA Educational grant considering their interest in studies and family financial situation from the last two years.

Vamsi got good marks in Intermediate and ready to join in Graduation (B.Tech, 1st year in Kanchikecherla– MIC College). Shivani joined Vagdevi College for Intermediate and supported for the year 2020. Vamsi volunteered for LEPRA Projects in generating awareness on Leprosy and HIV in the communities during COVID19 Pandemic. The children aim to settle well in life and support their parents. Rambabu thanked LEPRA and Oracle for supporting their family.
